Szuno
Told, Hungary

+3
Szuno, which means "dream" in Romani, was started in a marginalized border village to create livelihood opportunities for people who want to break out of generational poverty and create a better future for their children and grandchildren. Their unique bags, accessories, housewares, and zero waste products are developed by their in-house designer, decorated with colorful children's drawings, and handmade by local residents. They also produce popular jams and preserves. Priority is given to locally sourced, recycled, and environmentally responsible materials. In addition to creating jobs, Szuno has helped villagers finish their schooling, obtain driving licenses, access credit counseling and financial aid, develop employment skills, and organize community activities. Szuno is an initiative of Igazgyöngy Foundation, a registered not-for-profit organization with public benefit status, which means they reinvest all profits towards their social mission. They are part of Társadalmi Vállalkozás Koalíció, the Hungarian Social Enterprise Coalition.
